July and August are significant in the history of the Philippines because the most important events in our archipelago took place on those fateful months. Jose Rizal’s La Liga Filipina and the Katipunan ng Mga Anak ng Bayan were formed in July 1892. Four years after, in August 1896, the Philippine Revolution broke out.
Two eclipses punctuated that sacred page in our history. If you think astrologically, it means that the total Solar Eclipse on August 9, 1896, and the partial Lunar Eclipse on August 23, 1896, paved the way for a revolution that ended Spanish rule in the country.
What we can expect during eclipses
Secrets are discovered around the period of the eclipse. These, in turn, lead to twists of fate.
The general rule is that events turn out differently during eclipses. And the best approach is to expect the unexpected. Be flexible as events unravel themselves.
Intense emotions and strong energies are expressed during eclipses. This lead to actions and decisions that can change the course of one’s life, and collectively, that of the nation.
Not all are affected by eclipses
Eclipses are not created equal and it affects nations and individuals differently. Affected the most are those places where the eclipse is visible. Next are those where the planetary lines, activated by the eclipse, will traverse. And on the individual chart, we look at the planets hit by the eclipse degree.
In 1896, there were two sets of eclipsed signs. August 23, 1896 eclipse was in the mutable Pisces-Virgo axis. This was the battle between religious (Pisces) oppression and Enlightenment (Virgo) ideals. Among those affected were Rizal and Bonifacio, whose prominent zodiac signs are also mutable signs.
August 9 eclipse was in the sign Leo, the sign of kings, royals or kingdoms. There was an ardent desire among the people to be free from the rule of Spanish tyrants.
Let’s look back at our history and see how these eclipse-factors play out.
Though the Katipunan was established in 1892, by May 1896, the Katipuneros were still at odds with each other whether to begin the revolution or not. Four days after the solar eclipse on August 9, Fr. Agustin Fernandez reported instances of anti-government gatherings to civil authorities. On August 19, four days before the lunar eclipse, the existence of the Katipunan movement was discovered.
All the signatures of the eclipse present. Something hidden (such as the Katipunan) is discovered when there is an eclipse. Events near the eclipse, in this case, four days beforehand, triggered events that have a far-reaching effect.
August 1896 Eclipse
What is interesting is the intersection of history, individual choices and collective decisions with that of the eclipse. The lunar eclipse on August 23, 1896, took place around 3 in the afternoon. On that day the Katipuneros, led by Andres Bonifacio, the Supremo himself, was holding a meeting. There were heated debates but a crucial decision was made – that is to start the revolution.
The eclipse on that date is an opposition between the Sun and Moon. With the Moon involved, there are intense emotions of anger towards the government and the church. The energy released on that date is what fueled the so-called “Cry of Balintawak” a few days later. Cedulas were torn, declaring themselves free from the clutches of Spain.
This eclipse also had an active Mars, squaring the Eclipse point. Whenever there is a Mars highlight in the chart, there is conflict. There was a clear division between the people and the government. That was the state of Philippine society at that time. Mars, if not handled properly can lead to explosions as Mars relates to explosives. And more importantly, Mars is also associated with war and conflict and severance of ties.
Mars Cuts
Every planet has a positive and negative manifestation. At its best, Mars is the planet of heroes protecting the family or country. And in times of revolutionary change the energy of Mars is in fact needed, however, we need the kind of Mars that is focused and with a mission. Just like the objects that Mars rules, such as the knife and the “bolo,” its purpose is to cut things that bind. This is precisely the goal of the society founded by Gat Andres Bonifacio, the Kataastaasang Kagalangalang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan. Bonifacio’s sun sign is Sagittarius but his most dignified planet is Mars. His aim was to break the social contract that tied the Filipino people and the Spaniards together.
In the organization’s paper Kalayaan, the reason why the bond must be severed was given:
“This is a country that is ruled by wickedness and cruelty; the laws are worthless and what prevails is the rule of the mighty. And yet this country is sacrificing its blood and life for the honor and glory of its rulers, just to be called brother or child. Its wealth, life, and honor are at the disposal of people with evil desires.”
2019 Eclipse
The eclipse in the early morning of July 3 this year is worthwhile studying. It may have implications that can affect the nation. J
July 3, 1892, is the foundation date of La Liga Filipina–the civic society founded by Jose Rizal, the father of the nation. Through this organization, Rizal aimed to unite the people, a prerequisite before a major change in the country is to take place. He failed because he was arrested and deported a few days after he founded La Liga. But it became the seed of what is now our beloved sovereign nation.
Now that the eclipse falls on the same date which can be considered as the event that gave birth to the country, it is worthwhile asking — Is the Philippines going to be eclipsed?
